Hard Web pricing and clients Special Search Engine Newsletter

This email newsletter can be found on the web at http://www.hardweb.com.au/march05newsletter.html

Hello HardWeb clients!

I hope you have had a great 2005 and your website is getting you leads which are increasing your sales!

I would like to talk about one of my favourite topics SEARCH ENGINES!
Well it is a topic that I talk about anyway...

The search engines are the webpages that people go to when they want to find a webpage to help them with something or rather, the big names are Google, MSN and Yahoo

That may be research on a topic like "Britney's weight problem" or "Brad and Jen's split" or it maybe a search to find something that they need like a person involved in "Gold Coast web design" to perhaps help them with a website.

If you put "Gold Coast web design" in Google I'm 15th, Google Australia - 10th, and in MSN (which luckily no-one uses) I'm 34th and NineMSN (Australian MSN which everyone uses) I'm 11th, In Yahoo I'm 11th and in Yahoo Australia I'm also 11th.

If you put in the word "Hardweb" I come top in all six so I know I'm being indexed properly but how can I improve my rankings in the top three search engines for the words that count?

Thatch's Search Engine Challenge

My challenge is to improve my rankings in the 5 main Search engines that Australians use.(forget about MSN)
* (see below for my reasons that they are the most used engines for search)

Each week I am going to tell you how I do it and if it works for me.

How do the search engines rank you?
Simply the answer is words and their position in your website.
One of the most important parts of the website for search engines is the title.
That is the blue bit at the top of the webpage browser and is not actually in the webpage proper.

My own Title text reads "Web Design Gold Coast Surfers Paradise HARDWEB David Thatcher"
Do those first four terms look familiar?

Unfortunately the search engines have a hard time differentiating between words like "design" and "designer" so perhaps I should include both in the website somewhere.
I should have included the words "Internet" and "webpage" because some people are bound to search for my service with combinations of these words (as well as others)

In fact it is hard for me to imagine what the full list of possible combinations of words people could possibly use but it's worth it to keep thinking about it I'd say... www, web design services, webpage, website, builder, creator, maker, architect, professional, engineer, computer, nerd, geek,

Hey let's not get personal!

I think you've earned a cartoon break taken from suck.com
The newsletter continues below that.

To continue...

So we have decided that to improve our rankings on search engines in general it is a good idea to include more possible words that people might search with. Good.

But where to put them?

TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR MY FIRST RESULTS

warmest regards
David Thatcher

My research at Search Engine watch lead me to believe that the most important search engines
which provide 96% of all results are Google, Yahoo and MSN.
Further research on Australian only web users shows that NineMSN is by far our most popular search engine.
That is because you can search from the address bar in your web browser.
