Hard Web lInks page L I N K S
homepageweb information

Web pages are programmed with HTML ( HyperText Markup Language) and it is not a full blown programming language like C++ or in the old days Basic, Pascal or Cobol.
The good thing about HTML is that it is easy to learn. I learnt it well enough to publish a page in about 3 hours via a website that is still there and is still great!
It is the Maricopa site and is where I started to programme in HTML.

The web in its early days was all about being 'free', free information, free exchange of ideas and helping each other via bulletin boards and IRC (internet relay chat). I like those ideals and there is still an ethic of helping people and pushing the dream that computing should be free. Most people start their web experience getting a free email address from Hotmail which is now owned by Microsoft.

I recently put my personal website out to pasture at freeservers which gives me 20MB of free disk space. The problem with free space people like freeservers, XOOM , 50megs.com and the old favourite Geocities (now owned by Yahoo) is that they put advertising banners on your page or they pop-up while people are looking at your page. Also there is some dispute about the freespace people owning the copyright on your page! Not freeservers.com though which is somewhat of a relief.
